Radio Music TheatreRadio Music Theatre has transformed from its humble beginnings in 1985 into a powerhouse performance trio, earning appearances on Saturday Night Live, MTV and "The Today Show."

Based in Houston, the Radio Music Theatre includes 3 stage performers: husband and wife team Steve and Vicki Farrell and actor/musician Kevin Polk - as well as a handful of behind-the-scenes key people.

What exactly does Radio Music Theatre do? Many who have tried to answer this question say simply, "You can't describe it. You just have to see it."

The controlled chaos of Radio Music Theatre combines sketch comedy and full-length plays, musical numbers and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

The theater was first located in the now-defunct Second Verse Restaurant on Washington Avenue. Then the troupe relocated to its own storefront space on Westheimer, to an intimate theater that sat less than 100.

At around the time, the acting company was beginning to develop its signature sketch, "The Fertle Family," based on one of the actors' actual relatives in rural Iowa. The subject matter made for the perfect springboard to further develop "RMT Living Radio," which now had an "On Air" sign that lit up, its own jingle and nearly 14 different sketches about the Fertle Family. Radio Music Theatre had officially arrived.

In 1988, Radio Music Theatre moved into its current digs and was becoming well-known in the professional comedy circuit. The spotlight continues to shine on this talented collective, which was also tapped to create a pilot on the Nashville Network to showcase its unique brand of comedy.

Houston remains Radio Music Theatre's home, where the troupe has expanded its repertoire to include more satire, sketches and performances that rotate to offer a wider variety of options for its dedicated audience while continuing to attract new fans.
