The Miller Outdoor Theatre strives to provide arts and entertainment events of the highest caliber to its audience - all at no charge.
The theater was founded in 1925 on the principal that the theater company would provide cultural and educational events free of charge.
And they have upheld that promise through the years, moving from a permanent bandstand-style stage to a custom-built outdoor theater, professionally operated and maintained so that the theater group could continue its mission of outreach, education and inspiration.
The Miller Outdoor Theatre performs an eight-month season on 8 acres in Hermann Park, which also serves as the site for the Houston Zoo, the Garden Center and the Museum of Natural Science.
The theater includes seating for 1,700 and is situated on a sloping lawn that seats another 4,500 for general admission with lawn chairs, blankets and the like.
Past performances include Disney's Beauty & The Beast, the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats, The Wiz, The Houston Grand Taiko Festival, the 30th Anniversary Festival Chicano, the Houston Symphony, and the Houston Shakespeare Festival, just to name a few.
