Memorial Park Golf CourseMemorial Park Golf Course has enjoyed a long and storied history as one of the top golf courses in the state, where Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and other golf celebrities have played. The course has earned awards and designations, and was named one of America's best golf courses.

Memorial Park Golf Course originally opened in 1923 adjacent to a veterans hospital for use by recovering soldiers. The course was 9 holes at the time.

When the hospital closed, Memorial Park Golf Course was updated to an 18-hole course designed by John Bredemus and opened to the public.

In 1995, the course was completely renovated and returned to its original state, with a nod towards its history. The course now includes a lighted driving range, putting and chipping greens, an updated clubhouse and a golf museum with original artifacts from the course's vibrant history.

The course itself has been described as challenging by cooler heads. The course is a long one, with pine tree-lined fairways and large greens. Water hazards pop up every now and then, and hole No. 15 is a scenic par 3 that overlooks a stone-lined pond.

The course is considered to be the best municipal courses in the country. It was rated as the 9th "Best Public Golf Course" in the state of Texas by Golf Digest magazine.
